Uses and Benefits

Panby 40 mg Tablet  is used to treat gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, peptic ulcer, H. Pylori infection, prophylaxis of NSAID induced ulcers, zollinger-ellison syndrome, and erosive oesophagitis. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.

Description

Mechanism of Action of Pantoprazole: Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor which acts by inhibiting the gastric acid secretion in the stomach.

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients used in the Panby 40 mg Tablet  such as Pantoprazole


Caution:

  • Long term use
  • High dose
  • Hypomagnesemia
  • Patients 50 years and older

 

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur due to the consumption of Panby 40 mg Tablet. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

  • Headache
  • Diarrhea
  • Thrombophlebitis
  • Abdominal pain
  • Nausea / vomiting
  • URI sx
  • Fever
  • Rash
  • Dizziness
  • Flatulence
  • Arthralgia
  • Vitamin B12 deficiency
  • Fundic gland polyps

 

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

  • Hypersensitivity reaction
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Erythema multiforme
  • Stevens-johnson syndrome
  • Toxic epidermal necrolysis
  • Interstitial nephritis
  • Renal impairment
  • Pancreatitis
  • Rhabdomyolysis
  • Fractures
  • Hyponatremia
  • Hypomagnesemia
  • Lupus erythematosus
  • C. Difficile associated diarrhea
  • Blood dyscrasias
  • Hepatic impairment

 

How to Use

Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the Panby 40 mg Tablet, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip. Do not break/crush/chew the tablet.
Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t consume two doses at the same time in order to compensate for the missed dose – this may prove dangerous to your health.
Panby 40 mg Tablet may be taken either with or without food.
Take the medicine twice or thrice in a day (or as recommended by your doctor – priority).
Panby 40 mg Tablet is not recommended in children younger than 5 years.

 

Overdosage

Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, look for any new or abnormal symptoms. If you observe any, promptly seek medical advice or report it to the nearby poison control center.

Warnings and Precautions

Take Panby 40 mg Tablet only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Pregnancy: Safety is not yet established. Therefore, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant during treatment.

Lactation: Inform your doctor if you are a nursing mother because safety during lactation is not yet established.

Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor if you are on any medication such as digoxin, methotrexate, diuretic or water pill.

 

Precautions

  • Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
  • Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture.
  • Do not use the medicine beyond its expiry.

FDA Pregnancy Category

Category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant the use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
