Uses and Benefits

Montetime-L Tablet is generally prescribed to treat seasonal allergic rhinitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria. It is also used to treat chronic asthma, allergic rhinitis, prophylaxis of exercise-induced asthma. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon doctor’s discretion.

Description

Mechanism of Action of Drugs : Montelukast is a leukotriene inhibitor. Leukotrienes are the chemicals in our body which are responsible for the allergies, swelling of lungs, tightening of the muscles around airways results in asthma. Therefore, by blocking leukotrienes, helps in reducing allergic reactions and asthma.
Levocetirizine acts by blocking the histamine. Histamine gets produced in the body during allergic reactions. Thus, by blocking them, Levocetirizine reduces allergic reactions.

Contraindications and Caution: Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professional before taking the  Montetime-L Tablet:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components used in the  Montetime-L Tablet such as Montelukast and Levocetirizine
  • ESRD
  • Hemodialysis
  • Renal impairment, 6months to 11 years
  • Caution:
  • Asthma, severe
  • PKU (Phenylalanine-containing forms)
  • Renal impairment
  • Concurrent CNS depressant use
  • Alcohol use
  • Urinary retention risk
  • Prostatic hypertrophy
  • Spinal cord injury

 

Side and Adverse Effects

The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Montetime-L tablet. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:

  • Somnolence
  • Nasopharyngitis
  • Fatigue
  • Diarrhea, pediatrics
  • Fever, Pediatrics
  • Vomiting
  • Xerostomia
  • Cough, Pediatrics

Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:

  • Hypersensitivity reaction

How to Use: Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the Montetime-L tablet whole, immediately after opening the tablet from the strip. Do not break/crush/ chew the tablet. Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t consume two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Take the tablet with or without food. Take the medicine at the prescribed time and dosage.

 

Overdosage: Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Somnolence
  • Thirst
  • Headache
  • Vomiting
  • Psychomotor hyperactivity
  • Drowsiness
  • Agitation
  • Restlessness
  • Confusion
  • Diarrhea
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Headache
  • Stupor
  • Tachycardia
  • Urinary retention
  • Tremor
  • Sedation

 

Warnings and Precautions: Take  Montetime-L tablet only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:

Kidney: Caution advised among people with renal problems. If you have any, consult your doctor before the consumption of  Montetime-L tablet.

Liver: Caution advised among people with hepatic problems. If you have any, consult your doctor before the consumption of  Montetime-L tablet.

Pregnancy: May be used during pregnancy – risk of fetal harm not expected based on limited human data. However, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

Lactation: May used during lactation – risk of infant harm not expected based on limited human data. However, no human data available to evaluate effects on milk production.

 

Drug Interactions:

Exercise caution when used with other medication. Therefore, inform your doctor about your current list of medication which you start or stop.

 

Precautions

  • Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.
  • Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture.
  • Do not use the medicine beyond its expiry.
  • Do not accept the torn strip or a broken tablet.

FDA Pregnancy Category: Category B: Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women.
